Full Description

Stone built Omodos village and Kelephos medieval Venetian bridge are superb cultural heritage examples of the Troodos mountains.

Cobbled stoned Omodos is one of the largest of the wine villages ('Krasochoria' which means wine villages in Greek) which sprawl the fertile wine valley. Omodos is an excellent model of Cyprus rural architecture and showcases a collection of attractions (eg traditional man powered grape press). Central to the village is the 1100AD Monastery of the Holy Cross. According to tradition it was visited by St Helen in the third century AD; she left a piece of the rope used in Christ's Crucifixion there - sadly the monastery is no longer in service and stands only as a museum.

Kelephos medieval Venetian bridge blends into nature and stands as a testament of Cyprus cultural heritage. Kelephos Bridge is the most photographed of the twenty or so remaining medieval bridges on the Island. It lies in the midst of the Paphos Forest, the forest also being home to a few thousand wild sheep (mouflon). According to tradition the bridge is found on a path that was used by camel caravans to transport mined material to Paphos port for export.

Depending on time availability we may do a walk at the bridge and the nearby valley of Platy, stop for a meal at a village restaurant, go for a wine tasting session or visit other attractions on the itinerary. The trip is customisable.

Know before you go

• Pickup location : At an agreed location: eg. hotel, resort or landmark of a main city: such as Limassol, Nicosia, Larnaca, Pissouri, Protaras, Ayia Napa.
• From Agia Napa or Protaras the trip would make sense if the duration is 6 to 10 hours, as, due to the significant distance, there is considerable time to be spent in the car.
