The best time to visit Cyprus is between May and June, when the weather is driest and warmest and you can expect up to 13 hours of sunshine a day. However, Cyprus has more to offer than just warm weather, and the island is a great place to visit during other times of the year, too.
Here’s our run-down of the best months of the year to holiday in Cyprus.
For a cooler climate - May or October
Cyprus has one of the hottest climates in the Mediterranean. And while this is perfect for sunseekers, you may find yourself more comfortable if you visit either side of the high season. Temperatures still reach an average of 25°C in May and October, but compared to the mid-30s °C you can expect to see in July and August, it is a much safer choice if you’re looking to stay cool.
For the best beach weather - July and August
During July and August, temperatures average 32°C - perfect for those that love nothing more than relaxing on the beach or beside the pool. If you’re travelling with little ones, you’ll probably find plenty of things to do during July and August too. And although there will be hardly any rainfall, if you’re looking for a little relief from the heat, then spend a day exploring up in the mountains.
For fewer crowds - June or September
The great thing about visiting during June or September is you can still enjoy amazing weather but won’t be competing with the crowds. And if you’re looking to explore the towns, villages and attractions when they’re at their quietest, be sure to set off earlier in the day. Plus, you’ll also escape the midday heat.
For hiking and biking - March or April
With acres of mountainous terrain, Cyprus has become a favourite destination for hikers and bikers. If you have plans to explore the island on two wheels, or on foot, we recommend visiting in March or April. You’ll experience mild temperatures, little to no rainfall, and be able to cool off in one of the island’s waterfalls or enjoy a swim in the sea.
For city breaks - April or October
Cyprus is famed for its many churches, chapels, and ancient ruins. If you’re planning to soak up some history and culture in the island’s towns and cities, then the best months to visit are April or October. Temperatures can still reach the mid-20s °C, but you’ll encounter fewer sightseers and cooling breezes from the sea.
