Planning what to pack in your suitcase? Or perhaps you’ve already arrived in Cyprus but want to make the most of your time in the sun. Here are just a few of the essentials you’ll need when you're out enjoying the sunshine.
Suncream, a sunhat and sunglasses
Summers in Cyprus are hot. And with little to no cloud cover, it’s important to take precautions - particularly if you’re out in the midday heat. Keep applying suncream throughout the day, even if you’re on the go or sitting in the shade. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!
Flip flops for the beach
No-one likes sand in their shoes - so if you’re planning a day at the beach, be sure to bring your flip flops. Some of the beaches in Cyprus are pretty pebbly, especially towards the shoreline. Plus, with the sun shining on it for most of the day, the sand can become too hot to walk on, so flip flops are great for protecting your feet.
Good shoes for hiking
If you’re planning to venture into the cities or hike up into the mountains, then a decent pair of trainers or boots are a must. Flip flops and sandals may be great for keeping cool, but for the cobbled streets and rocky hiking trails, you’ll need something a little sturdier.
Cold water bottle/flask and watermelon
Although you’ll never be far from a good cafe or restaurant, it’s always good to keep a bottle of water on you to stay hydrated. Some of the island’s smaller, more secluded beaches don’t have shops or cafes, so be sure to check in advance if you’ll be spending a few hours there. Top tip: take some slices of watermelon for a tasty treat.
Swimwear, beach towels and towel pegs
It goes without saying, if you’re spending a day by the sea, then swimwear and towels are a must. Most of the bigger beaches have sunbeds for hire, but we recommend arriving early (especially in August) so you don’t miss out! Things can get a little windy by the coast, so towel pegs are great for stopping your towels from blowing away.
