This southeast region of Cyprus is famed for its small, sandy bays and bright blue waters. There are plenty of beaches to choose from in Protaras, but here are a handful of our favourites.
Fig Tree Bay

Fig Tree Bay is a stretch of soft, golden sand, just a short walk from the town's bars and restaurants. In the past, it’s been ranked highly by TripAdvisor as one of the best beaches in Europe. And with plenty of sunbeds for hire and warm, clear waters that are perfect for swimming and snorkelling, it's ideal for couples and families looking to relax and have fun in the sun.
Kalamies Beach

Kalamies Beach is a sheltered, sandy bay backed by charming local bars and restaurants. Famed for its crystal-clear waters, and the idyllic whitewashed chapel of Agios Nikolaos that stands nearby, it has the look and feel of a Greek island. You’ll find sunbeds and umbrellas for hire. Plus, if you swim out into the bay with a snorkel, you’re likely to see shoals of colourful fish.
Pernera Beach

Pernera is a small, sandy inlet on the outskirts of Protaras. With shallow, azure waters that are warm throughout the summer, it’s perfect for those with little ones. It's smaller and quieter than some of the other beaches in the area and is close to a couple of hotels, bars and restaurants if you’re in search of somewhere to stop for lunch.
Malama Beach

Malama is in a beautiful sheltered bay, making it great for families. It has a bar and restaurant as well as water sports facilities and is renowned for its laid back atmosphere. The shallow turquoise waters are great for swimming. However, the beach itself is fairly narrow, so can become a little crowded at peak times during the high season.
Trinity Beach

This sheltered little cove near Paralimni is great for swimming and snorkelling. It’s positioned right next to a charming little church and has soft, golden sands, calm blue waters, and toilets and shower facilities for rinsing off after a swim. You’ll always find plenty of parking. Plus, there’s a great snack bar at the top of the beach if you fancy something to eat or drink.
